Why Fashion Brands Need a Social Presence

In the past decade alone, social media has managed to quickly revolutionise almost every industry in the world, and fashion is certainly no exception.  With over four billion social media users around the world, brands would be foolish not to utilise the platforms that are available to them. Social media provides the fashion industry with connectivity, innovation, and diversity. Through harnessing online channels, fashion brands can build their own diverse communities and innovative content strategies.

Fashion brands have discovered the power of social media to reach and engage their customers. Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter offer fashion brands the opportunity to share their products, build relationships, and inspire customers.

Social media has altered the fashion industry dramatically, it has been transformed from an industry of high fashion, magazines, and print, which was inaccessible to the everyday consumer, to being easily available to anyone with a mobile device. The everyday consumer can now watch the runway live from Paris fashion week in the comfort of their own home thanks to Instagram live streaming.

Social media has provided the average consumer with a platform to share their passions and interests, which has resulted in everyday people becoming influencers and sharing their outfits and style inspiration.

User-generated content also referred to as UGC is content created by consumers and shared online. UGC has become increasingly popular over the past few years as it allows users to express their opinion and share their experiences with the world. User-generated content is a great way for brands to build relatable content that appeals to their target audience.

Another benefit of UGC is that it is often seen as more authentic and trustworthy than traditional advertising. Consumers are more likely to trust content created by other consumers than they are to trust content created by the company itself. This can lead to increased customer loyalty and engagement.

The rise of social media has resulted in fashion brands having to reconsider their marketing strategies and develop new and innovative ideas. Creative social media engagement is a great way to expand your brand's reach and increase sales. Social media platforms are highly visual; therefore, it is crucial for brands to create engaging, bold, and eye-catching visuals.

The fashion industry is powered by trends, and in recent years social media has driven these trends faster and harder. Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have resulted in the rise of influencer culture and fashion trends, this has resulted in micro-trends and fast fashion brands becoming increasingly popular.

Social media also allows fashion brands to leverage influencers to promote their products. Influencers have become an important part of fashion brands’ marketing strategies as they help to amplify the brand's message and reach a wide audience. Influencer campaigns can be highly targeted and effective, allowing brands to get their products in front of their target customers.

We thought we would share some examples of fashion brands we think are killing it in the social media space right now!

Sisters and Seekers

Sisters and Seekers are a brand that uses social media to its advantage by creating dynamic and edgy campaigns and building an engaging community. With around 334 thousand followers on Instagram and 35 thousand followers on TikTok, the brand is building a community by interacting with its consumers in the comments. The brand's Instagram account has a strong brand aesthetic and a cohesive theme, with great consistent use of interactive stories and reels. The Sisters and Seekers TikTok account creates great viral content that is a great mix of funny, relatable and fashionable.

The “YOGA” hoodie has now become a classic trending piece, with limited restocks becoming hugely popular, thanks to TikTok the hoodie has become a must-have item in everyone’s wardrobe!

In November 2022, the brand launched its first-ever collaboration with Love Island star Tasha Ghouri. The collection was a hit and many items sold out instantly! Sharing snippets of the collection in the weeks leading up to the release created excitement among their consumers. The “Pammy” collection - inspired by the icon Pamela Anderson consisted of bold visuals and 90s-inspired pieces.

Broken planet is another fashion brand who are creating some really cool content right now! The streetwear brand creates ethically sourced and limited-edition clothing and markets itself primarily through social media platforms. With around 347 thousand followers on Instagram and 310 thousand followers and TikTok, Broken Planet is changing the game within the streetwear world.

Broken Planet has built a strong community of like-minded consumers whom both love fashion, and care about the planet. By selling their clothing in drops, which are promoted on social media, they have created a sense of exclusivity that appeals to their consumers. Due to all the support that the brand has received through its time on social media, they have now launched the “Broken Planet Foundation” which will focus on solving environmental issues in communities and being transparent about sustainability.

Social media is a way for fashion brands to target their audience, anytime, anywhere. Brands would be foolish not to utilise the online space and optimise it for their marketing strategies. Not only is social media a brilliant way to target the right audience, but it also provides brands to stay updated on what their competitors are doing. By keeping ahead of the curve and working hard to make interesting and intriguing content, brands can keep an edge over their competitors.

In today’s digitally driven world having a social presence is not enough. For a brand to be successful it must implement a strong social media strategy into its marketing plans and ensure they utilise all analytics and insights provided by social media platforms to correctly target its audiences.

Here at Seas Design, we pride ourselves on our social media channels and strive to share only the best content we can! Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and TikTok to stay up to date on all our content!
